HOUSTON EVENTS – WHAT EVENT CAN YOU ATTEND IN HOUSTON?
Throughout the year Houston holds a number of events from cuisine-related events to music, culture, the arts, festivals and much more. As a tourist, or even as a resident, it is often interesting and enjoyable to attend these different Houston events, so take a look below and see what Houston event you would like to attend.
ELVIS BIRTHDAY CELEBRATIONS
The first weekend of January in Houston is a time to celebrate Elvis’ birthday at this horse racing event which also includes an Elvis look-alike competition, a sandwich eating contest and much more.
HISTORIC WALKING TOURS
If history is your thing then you may enjoy going on the historic walking tours that are held in January in Houston. Guided tours are given around the city pointing out important landmarks from history and architecture.
TEXAS HOME AND GARDEN SHOW
If you are interested in home maintenance, gardening or green living then you may be interested in joining the 1500 exhibitors in mid-February for a show filled with exhibits at the Reliant Center.
KOMEN CANCER FOUNDATION PINK TIE GALA
One of the Houston events that helps charity is the Komen Cancer Foundation Pink Tie Gala that is held in about March each year to raise funds for breast cancer research.
HOUSTON SPORTING EVENTS
For those tourists and residents more interested in sporting events there are also a number of events to cater to your tastes. This starts with college baseball in January and also includes the US Men’s Clay Court Championships in April, the US Open Sporting Clays Championship in June, the National football league, and the Susan G Komen Race for the Cure.
Once again, the Susan G Komen Race for the Cure is a charity event with the proceeds going towards helping to support breast cancer research, screening, education and treatment.
HOUSTON CULTURAL FESTIVALS AND EVENTS
Houston also celebrates a number of different cultures with events during the year. The Japanese festival held in Hermann Park’s Japanese Garden includes such typically Japanese activities such as Ikeban flower design, origami and traditional dance and music.
Other cultural events in Houston include the Asia Pacific Heritage Festival and Clear Lake Greek festival in May; and the Turkish festival in September;
HOUSTON MUSICAL EVENTS
Other Houston events include the musical events such as Juneteenth which includes Blues, Gospel and Jazz performances and is held in June to celebrate the emancipation of the slaves.
The Make Mine Music Fest is another musical event held in August and includes a wide range of music as well as crafts, foods and children’s entertainment; the Houston Tidelanders Barbershop show and Jazz Nights Under the Stars in September.
Houston events are a great place to take the whole family and enjoy the arts, culture or sports.
