NEW YORK CITY EVENTS – AN EVENT CALENDAR FOR NEW YORK CITY AND SURROUNDS
New York has a wide range of events throughout the year to cater to all interests and tastes. Whether you want to attend the US Open tennis tournament or attend the Family Matters conference; attend July 4th events or the Asian American International Film Festival there should be something within the New York City Events Calendar to take your fancy.
NEW YORK CITY SPORTING EVENTS
As with many other American cities, the New York City events calendar begins with College Baseball. Other sporting events include Major League Baseball and Soccer in April, the JFK Runway Run and Big Swim are also in April; The Great Five Boro Bike Tour, National Football League and College Football, National Hockey League, and the National Basketball Association and College Basketball.
ANTIQUES AT NEW YORK CITY EVENTS
There are also a number of New York events catering to antique collectors and lovers. These start in January with Antiques @ The Piers, Antiques @ The Armory, New York Antiques and Fine Art Fair, and the Winter Antiques show.
NEW YORK CITY MUSICAL EVENTS
Musical events are another important part on the New York City Events calendar. This ranges from the “Mostly Mozart” event in July which focuses on classical music from Mozart and also a bit of Beethoven, Schubert and other classical composers; to the Bluegrass Music Festival and others.
CULTURAL FESTIVALS AND EVENTS IN NEW YORK CITY
New York city events also celebrate the diversity of people living in New York from the Chinese in January to Africa in December. The New york city events calendar begins with celebrations of the Chinese Lunar New Year and in December there is a Kwanza festival celebrating African food, culture and traditions. Between these events there is also National Tartan Day, Puerto Rican Day Parade, Throgs Neck Sweden day, Asian American International Film Festival, the Feast of San Gennaro, West Indian–American Day Parade, and Tibetan festival.
EVENTS FOR THE WHOLE FAMILY
New York City also has a number of events particularly catering to children or the whole family. In February there is The Toy Expo and Cultural Festival where limited edition dolls and teddy bears are for sale and school students enter a toy invention competition.
The Fantasy Express runs in March and is a charity event with toy-giveaways, face painting, magicians and other entertainment for the whole family. This event helps the Lenox Hill Hospital Neonatal Critical Care Unit and Department of Pediatrics.
CULINARY EVENTS
There are also a host of New york city events to tantalise the taste buds. This includes the Taste of New York event in September where a number of selected restaurants get together to display their delicacies. A ticket to taste is $10 and you can also have cooking demos to learn how to create some of these dishes yourself.
Another popular culinary event is Feast with Famous Faces in October where top New York Chefs and celebrity sous-chefs and sommeliers prepare and serve their signature dishes to guests. This is a charity event and proceeds go towards the League for the Hard of Hearing.
