Top 100 Songs lists and highlight long standing artists

Music is of course, a subjective thing and everybody has their likes and dislikes. However, there are specific songs that become classics and play on countless polls over the years. These songs are in Top 100 Songs lists and highlight some long standing artists. Most of the songs voted for are covered by many acts. Trends come and passes by and modern tastes have a result on the polls but a lot of songs stand the test of time.


No list of favorites can remain without the presence of The Beatles. Most voted for songs are always Hey Jude or Yesterday. John Lennon is included too as a solo artist and think is the track that is normally selected.

Songs with usual place in Top 100 list

Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen is another fasten of Top 100 Songs lists. It was a longer than usual single and was incorporated by a promotional video, before they had become usual place. Panned by Freddie Mercury, it has an operatic sweep and is one of the most aspiring pop records to be enlisted. Originally released in 1975, it is the sole record to be a UK number one Christmas hit on two different occasions.

The rise of guitar bands in the UK in the 1990s was led by Oasis. Their songwriter, Noel Gallagher has made some remarkable records. The track, Don’t Look Back in Anger features on the What’s the Story, Morning Glory album and is a thoughtful song regarding life in a rock and roll band. It achieved number one in the UK charts and has been used in numerous television programs.

Songs that are constantly listed on the Top 100 list

Reggae’s biggest ambassador was Bob Marley, a music myth to most and sorely missed. His most popular record, produced with his backing group, The Wailers is No Woman, No Cry. It was first exposed in 1974 and the most famous version and the one that is remembered in Top 100 Songs polls is the live take. The song has also been covered by a number of artists, including The Fugees, Joan Baez, NOFX and Boney M.

Record producer Phil Spector was in excellent demand in the 1960s. He had progressed his own sound in the studio and enjoyed a lot of chart glory. One of the songs he produced emerged as a classic hit for the Righteous Brothers. Called Unchained Melody, it was released in 1965 and Bobby Hatfield caught the attention everyone with his sensitive vocal delivery. It constantly present in Top 100 Songs lists and the Righteous Brothers version stays the definitive one. The song has also been versioned by Barry Manilow, Elvis Presley and Gene Vincent.
